Version 1.4.0 is now available on the App Store. We removed a problem that slipped into the app between versions 1.3.7 and 1.3.8, and carried over to 1.3.9. Thanks for your patience as we zeroed in on this one. Because of this issue, some previous users may wish to delete the app before updating to version 1.4.0 to avoid carrying over issues. If the app was in an intractable state, we recommend this. As stated on the website as well as in the user guide, deleting and re-downloading will cause stats to be reset, so if this is an issue, please try other methods first such as using the app switcher to flick the app out of the rotation, as described here.
In testing this version, we’ve noticed some occasional unresponsiveness in the Game Manager that we haven’t seen before, but reordering the variations (tap Reorder, grab the three-line icon, and drag vertically) restored normal behavior. We’ve also noticed other issues, but we felt getting this version out now would solve at least some immediate concerns.
More work in progress
We’re continuing to work on general improvements. One thing we’re trying out is bubbles in a cup of coffee as a replacement for the spills. We can do this without generating svgs (scalable vector graphics), which would alleviate resizing issues that have cropped up. Of course not all our potential variations have coffee themes, but this one would maintain the same bubble patterns as the spills.
As we’ve mentioned, Spell the Beans is a bit of an idiosyncratic Rube Goldberg machine. And pinpointing problems means reliably reproducing errors, which takes time. We hope having an original, enriching game is worth the setbacks we encounter along the way. Thanks so much for your continued support as we weather these choppy waters.
